The Tempters Are In Trouble!

One day Jesus said to his disciples, "There will always be temptations to sin, but how terrible it will be for the person who does the tempting. It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around the neck than to face the punishment in store for harming one of these little ones. I am warning you!"
Luke 17:1-3a (NLT)

That is a sobering and stark warning to all of us who bare Christ's name. Although the Greek in this passage implies that the sin (skandalon) is such that it invokes apostasy on the part of the tempted, still... it makes you think. Little things that we don't challenge in our everyday life... if people (especially young people) aren't challenged, they will be tempted to repeat the sin again and again. Does that make us a tempter?

I'm going to prepare more thoroughly for Sunday night's cell group...

Comments:
The person who always modelled this for me was Big Lylo of the YC. I remember him talking about why he didn't go to pubs and stuff as he didn't want any of the kids from YC to see him do it and think it was ok to go (considering the temptation to go underage. It's all the more striking considering that it's not technically morally wrong (circumstances ignored) to just go into a pub. But the consideration he has for the position he holds spoke volumes to me as a young Christian and young Christian leader.
It is all the more inspiring when you realise that his drive for this is foremost his genuine concern for the young people and not the fear of the millstone around his neck.

I agree, Ormo: Lyle is an excellent role model. I remember him talking about exactly the same topic and his attitude has helped shape mine. We're lucky that we are blessed with some worthy leaders at First. :)
